Think about tomorrow yesterday

For the past 2 years, Industry 4.0 has been the bearer of hope for Germany as a location. At the same time, a stronger focus on people in Industry 4.0 is needed. Both can be harmonised by focusing practice-oriented and value-oriented concepts of a "lean" Industry 4.0 on the interaction between man and machine.

The growing pace of innovation has increased pressure on German companies. It is therefore important to develop long-term strategies that go beyond the current status quo and describe a specific vision of the future that is tailored to one's own actions, the history of a company, its image and portfolio. Terms that repeatedly occur in connection with a prospective “factory of tomorrow" are:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Intelligent, expressive products
  • Smart Factory
  • Power adjustment
  • Dynamic business and engineering processes
  • Merging of virtual and real world
  • Human as designer
  • Supportive assistance systems
  • Data transmission in real time; Work-life balance
  • Cyber Physical Systems (CPS)
  • Virtual commissioning
  • Plug & Work
  • Lifelong learning
  • Internet of things
  • Individualised customer requests
  • Resource efficiency

New production with a human at the centre!

One thing is especially important: Technology is not an end in itself but only a basis for Industry 4.0. In the future, real and virtual worlds will merge with each other and be fully interconnected. This opens up completely new forms of production and collaboration. What is new in this approach is that not only do machines and integrated systems communicate with each other, but in the context of Industry 4.0, all systems are intelligently connected with each other and exchange information on the products to be manufactured in real time (of course also with the human!). In “Lean Industry 4.0", the "new" concepts of Industry 4.0 are combined with the established principles of lean management, thus enabling a new collaboration between man, machine and products, with humans and their added value at the centre!
